Read this first. This page quotes what the FDA label says for a missed dose. It does not tell you what to do. Labels describe the typical case, and yours may not be typical, especially if you have missed more than one dose or you have other conditions. What the labels actually say
Semaglutide, weekly (Wegovy, Ozempic)
If the missed dose is remembered within 5 days of when it was due, the label says it can be taken as soon as possible, and the normal schedule resumed. Past 5 days, the label says skip it and take the next dose on the regular day. If two or more consecutive weekly doses are missed, the label directs you to your prescriber, because restarting at a lower dose and re-titrating is common.
Tirzepatide, weekly (Zepbound, Mounjaro)
The window is shorter: 4 days. Within it, take the missed dose as soon as possible. Past it, skip and resume on the normal day. Doses must stay at least 3 days apart.
Dulaglutide, weekly (Trulicity)
3 days. Same shape as the others: inside the window take it, outside the window skip it.
Liraglutide and oral semaglutide, daily (Saxenda, Rybelsus)
Skip the missed dose entirely and take the next one at the normal time. Do not double up. For Saxenda, if more than 3 days pass, the label directs you to your prescriber about restarting titration.
Why the windows exist
These drugs have long half-lives, roughly a week for semaglutide and tirzepatide. That is why they are weekly injections at all. The catch-up window is set so that taking a late dose does not stack too much drug on top of what is still circulating from the last one, which is what drives nausea and vomiting.
Taking a missed dose outside the window is not dangerous in the way an overdose is. It is a tolerability problem, and it also resets the spacing of every dose after it.
What people get wrong
Doubling up
Taking two doses close together to "catch up" is the single most common mistake, and it is the one most likely to produce a genuinely bad few days. No label for any of these medications says to do it.
Assuming a long gap is harmless
Missing two or more consecutive weekly doses means your tolerance has partly faded. Restarting at your old dose is what turns a missed dose into a week of vomiting. This is why the labels send you back to your prescriber at that point.
Not moving the schedule back
If you take a missed dose three days late and then keep counting weeks from that day, your injection day has quietly moved. Decide deliberately which day you are on, and if you are unsure, the schedule tool will lay it out.

- I missed my Wegovy dose by 3 days. Can I still take it?
- The label says a missed semaglutide dose can be taken within 5 days of when it was due, then the normal schedule resumes. Three days is inside that window. Confirm with your prescriber, particularly if this has happened more than once.
- What if I missed two weeks of Wegovy?
- The label directs you to your prescriber. Two or more consecutive missed weekly doses commonly means restarting at a lower dose and re-titrating, because tolerance fades.
- Can I take two doses to catch up?
- No label for any GLP-1 medication says to double up. It stacks drug on top of what is still circulating and is the most reliable way to produce severe nausea.
- Does missing a dose ruin my progress?
- One missed weekly dose is unlikely to matter much given how long these drugs stay in your system. Repeated gaps are a different question, and worth raising with your prescriber.
